3.Liga, Round 9

Halle faced leaders Heidenheim and showed that they’ve gotten back on track. But despite a fine performance, Heidenheim was just better and the Swabians take home all the points and sole possession of the top.

Kiel put up a good fight at Wehen and deservedly takes a point.

Erfurt dominated Elversberg, but the visitors were resisting valiantly until late. The win jumps RWE into the playoff spot.

RedBull dominated against Stuttgart II, and probbaly should have won by a bigger margin. The Leipzigers remain in the hunt for the promotion that their corporate bosses have planned for.

It was supposed to be a party for MSV’s 111th birthday, but Darmstadt was a poor guest and crapped all over the festivities as the Lilies stunningly ripped Duisburg’s ass.

Rostock fans might want to riot after this one. Hansa was in control and looked on the road to victory, but BVB’s II squad adjusted at halftime and got back in the match. The hosts were completely lost on what to do, and ended up taking it in the shorts.

Osnabrück stopped their slide with an easy rout of hapless Burghausen. VfL needed this to regroup and perhaps get back into their favorites role. Burghausen looks totally out of their league, last season’s decent performance an ancient memory. Of course it’s too early to say there’s no hope, but I’d be surprised if their is anybody that doesn’t beleive they’re going down.

Another squad that has totally stunk is Preußen Münster. This is a complete surprise, as they were challenging for a promotion spot last season, and fully expected to be a contender. Instead they suck and were dumped again, at home no less. Unterhaching is usually all over the place, but they showed steel in kicking their hosts in the balls and grabbing all the points.

Stuttgarter Kickers finally got their first win, and they tore Regensburg to shreds.

Saarbrücken had an edge against Chemnitz, but was unable to convert it to a much needed win. Instead FCS continues to struggle in the relegation zone.

Midweek is a makeup game were Haching hosts Halle…

3.Liga, Round 8

Surprise defeat as no-money, tiny Elversberg dumped favored Red Bull Leipzig was pretty dominant throughout the match, but SVE held on and then won the game in injury-time. Great result for them, RedBull obviously not too happy.

Leaders Heidenheim had only minor problems with struggling Stuttgarter Kickers, who have yet to win. Wehen joins them at the top with a solid win over Duisburg. MSV was the attacking team, but Wehen was solid in defense and killed the Zebras on the counter attack. Both Heidenheim and Wehen have now opened up a slight gap in the promotion race.

Erfurt showed their back on track as they dealt upstart Kiel a defeat in Holstein.

Burghausen looks totally out of their league at this time, with a hapless start and likely a bitter end. They got ripped by Stuttgart-II, and desperately need some results if they’re not to be relegated by the winterbreak.

Seberal matches are scheduled for Wednesday, so they’ll be updated then.

3.Liga, Round 7

Midweek action saw the favorites brought back down to earth. Halle continued their upswing as they upended Osnabrück, and leaders Wehen got bitch-slapped silly in Erfurt. Leipzig won a top clash againt Kiel.

Big crowd in Duisburg, only to see the Zebras lose to BVB II.

Another big loser was Burghausen, getting dumped at home in a relegation battle against Elversberg.

2.Liga, Round 6

Greuther Fürth had their hands full at Bornheim. Frankfurt showed a tough defense and dangerous counterattacks, and the Greuther were on the verge of their first loss. Despite pressure, they were blunted by the aggressive FSV defense. However Weilandt came on late as a sub and grabbed a deserved equalizer. Overall, a good result for FSV, establishing themselves once again as a tough side despite minimal resources. Fürth probably isn’t losing too much sleep over this one, as they are clearly one of the promotion contenders.

This is why München will be waiting for a second top-flight side to accompany Bayern. (It wasn’t that long ago when they could boast *3* sides). 1860 sucks, and this one is perfect evidence. They were totally outplayed at home by Sandhausen, who have struggled to find form this season. 1860 should be a huge club, but they continue to suck. Think of them as Man City without crazy Arab money. A win was what 1860 needed to mount a challenge. Instead, they get kicked in the balls and insult their dwindling fanbase. The whole saying that Bayern is Bavaria’s team, but 1860 in München’s is getting pretty old. I think most Müncheners have decided there’s too much good being a Bayern fan. Good win for SVS in their relegation battle. BTW, after the match, 1860 coach Alex Schmidt was canned. Speculation for his successor have brought up Friedhelm Funkel and Felix Magath(!).

Weird match in Bielefeld, which Arminia pulled out with a late flurry over Düsseldorf. Both sides looked like they wanted to throw the game, but in the end Bielefeld willed their way to victory. Another mediocre result for Fortuna, who don’t look like they’re serious about an immediate return to the Bundesliga.

St.Pauli brings fans, and as a result you had a rare sell-out at Berlin’s Alte Försterei. And the fans that showed up were rewarded with an exciting match. St.Pauli caught Union flat-footed and blasted out of the gates with a double, but Union did not panic. They stuck to their plan of pressuring the Paulistas, and the Hamburgers began to get grilled. The hosts fought their way back and were finally rewarded with a nice win late in the match.

Both Bochum and Paderborn have been struggling, and it looked epsecially grim for Bochum at half, down by two goals. However coach Peter Neururer must have said something, as VfL came out breathing fire and pressured until Paderborn fell apart. Good win for Bochum, although they still have a lot of work.

Köln showed what they are capable of as they had an impressive display in thumping Aue. The hosts immediately jumped all over teh visitors and had the match firmly in grip from the start. Erzgebirge tried to fight back, but were basically on their back heels the whole match. If Köln can get some consistency in attack, they are a clear promotion favorite. They made one intriguing move over the weekend, as they signed Patrick Helmes from Wolfsburg. Helmes has previously played for Köln and done quite well, so the hope is that he’ll continue. The big question is whether his injury problems will put a damper on things.

Karlsruhe and Aalen battled to a draw, a fair result.

Dresden remains at the bottom as they could not get a result against fellow bottom feeder Ingolstadt. Overall, ynamo had a clear edge in chances and possession, but FCI was solid and had some decent counters of their own.

On Monday, both Kaiserslautern and Cottbus had something to prove after crap outings. It could have been a disaster for FCK, as they were down a man and a goal almost at the start. But the home side showed resilience and bounced back twice to earn a point.
