The Sunday matches included lots of goals, but the trend continued: Hoffenheim and Hamburg continue woth goose eggs in the point column. Eintracht Frankfurt continues their great start in their return from the 2.Liga.

The most highly anticipated match was in Frankfurt. Eintracht was no longer under stadium restriction, so it was packed to the rafters. Frankfurt has had a dream start on their Bundesliga return, but it’s been a nightmare for HSV. However, Hamburg favorite Rafael van der Vaart has returned, so the guests were hoping for a boost. Instead, it was Eintracht exploding out of the gates, with Japanese import Inui and Canadian Occean getting their first goals. HSV seemed stunned and reeling, Eintracht dominating the match. However, just before halftime, the Beef-patties got back in. The second half was more of the same, a quick Frankfurt start, but Hamburg got back sooner. Nevertheless, it was really a stronger performance by Frankfurt, and they deserved the win. Frankfurt coach Armin Veh is on record as saying that “we’re bound to get our asses kicked soon” (literary license), but 9 points out of the gate are a great way of avoiding relegation worries. Hamburg showed definite improvement, but it would have been robbery if they had secured a point. Could they go down in year 50? Well, next match is home to Dortmund, so it doesn’t get easier.

In the Breisgau, another important match. Would Hopeless-heim get back on track? Would SCF be able to get some points needed to fend off relegation? It truned into a wild shootout, although a lot was due to Hoffenheim GK Tim Wiese doing his Manuel Neuer imitation and getting caught outside his goal in wankerish fashion…flailing like a fairy on crosses. A deserved win for Freiburg, which generally looked much better. Ex-Paulista Max Kruse was involved in four of the five SCF goals, his best performance. Hoffenheim continues to look hopeless, although at least offensively they looked OK. Japanese import Takashi Usami did well, probably their best player.
