2.Liga: Monday Night Football

The Monday Night game featured two desperate clubs, and it ended as one might expect, with a draw. However this match is more like a loss for host Köln, as they dominated play. Despite the pressure, they were unable to convert any of their chances, and end with a goose-egg. St.Pauli would have probably been happy with a draw, and they certainly didn’t do anything to deserve more.

Köln started at a furious pace, not looking at all like the club that has stunk so far. They did everything right except score. Pauli GK Tschauner was sharp however, and despite shaking, the visitors didn’t fall over. But going forward was another matter. It was 30 minutes before they even created a chance in front of Köln’s goal, from veteran Marius Ebbers, playing his 250th 2.Liga match for St.Pauli. However, the striker never got off a shot. It was only just before half that the guests even had a shot on goal, and even then it was lame. The second half was more of the same, as Köln wasted all sorts of chances to get their first win. In the end, coach Holger Stanislawski had to feel like it was a defeat rather than a point.

Next match should be critical, as Köln travels to Berlin to play also sucking Union. Something has to give there. Pauli travels again, to FSV Frankfurt.
