3.Liga, Round 13

The leaders had to be satisfied with a draw in Saarbrücken. Early on FCS was pretty equal with Münster, but as the match went on, Preussen seized the initiative. They assaulted the home side’s goal, but nothing came of it.

Wehen set a new record, but they must be kicking themseleves. The villagers have drawn 5 straight matches, and an amazing 10/13. In fact, only leaders Münster are harder to beat. In a hard match at Osnabrück, Wehen was taking it to the purples. They looked on the verge of a great victory, but Beermann scored 5 minutes into injury time to save a point for the home side.

Karlsruhe controlled most of the match against an unimpressive Unterhaching. However KSC wasted whatever chances they generated, and in teh end, it was GK Moritz that saved the draw, as with the hosts out of gas, Haching had some promising chances to steal the points.

Heidenheim stopped recent poor form with an easy win at Stuttgart II. The hosts looked completely crap, so the visitors only did what was necessary to bring home the bacon.

Rostock gets a huge away win at Bielefeld. Hansa jumped out to an early lead, and although Arminia fought hard and pushed the vistors back, they lacked creativity and discipline. Thus a somewhat embarassing home loss, but perhaps a sign that Rostock can get back in the race.

After a rather lame 1st half, both Burghausen and Halle played better in the 2nd. In general, Wacker looked the better side, pressed harder, and is the deserved winner. They’ve quietly moved into the promotion race.

Offenbach scored a lot against Babelsberg, but overall it wasn’t one of their better games. For one, KO looked pretty crap early, and the Potsdamers were actually getting the upper hand. It wasn’t until late that the Kickers woke up and slapped their guests. Offenbach is within striking distance of the promotion race, but they’ll have to wake up earlier against better teams.

Stuttgarter Kickers gave themselves some breathing room, plunging Erfurt into depression. RWE looked totally incompetant, especially going forward. After watching this for a half, SK decided that this match was winnable, and banged in a few, getting the easy win.

A potential relegation battle in Aachen, and the home side should be kicking themselves with the result. Aachen dominated Darmstadt from the begin, but wasted chances left and right. the 98ers were barely holding on, and when they gave up a goal after an hour, it looked over. However Alemannia was careless and was duly punished. So while Aachen cries over spilled milk, a good point for the visitors.

  1. Ein Punkt, ein Punkt, ein Punkt!! Ja ja. Now for some sensible football and some three pointers. Got DVB youth squad this next, but Darmstadt often disappoint against the gimme’s.

Why such a big crowd? Does Aachen have a strong supporter base?

    • Yes, Aachen does have a strong and loyal supporter base. Perhaps being stuck in that corner helps. In the 2.Liga they were usually drew around 20,000, and I think the Tivoli holds around 32,000. If they were anywhere near the top, I could easily see them approach the 20,000 mark average for home games even in the 3.Liga. As it is, they suck and they still are the top club in the league. They are averaging almost 14,500 per match, ahead of Osnabruck (10,857) and Karlsruhe (9,979). The worst clubs are Unterhaching, only 2,450, and Dortmund II, 2,405. Many a 2.Liga club would be quite thrilled with numbers like Aachen…
