Wonder what the head coaches make? Like everything else, it’s best to be employed by Bayern if you want the cash. Jupp Heynckes had to be persuaded to sign on, and it cost. He must be happy, since it’s astronomically more than he made in his player days – and he was damn good, usually just behind Gerd Müller in the scoring charts. Perhaps it most clearly demonstrates that you really have to pay to play…
No real shockers I suppose. Thomas Schaaf is up there because he’s the longest serving Bundesliga coach, 13 years with Werder. (In fact, it’s only right that he’s rewarded for his loyalty: he started as a 11 year old player in the youth ranks in 1972, played in the Bundesliga, then started coaching the U17, U19, B squad, assistant then finally top dog in 1999).
If you look at the salaries, you’d expect Thomas Tuchel and Christian Streich to get nice increases if they move on. Schalke in particular has been rumoured to try and entice Tuchel over. Mainz is said to be “demanding 60 million” in compensation, although that is hardly serious. But it will cost the Blues a pretty penny to get him.
Obviously, I’m having some fun with the “euros per point”, since it’s a bogus stat. It’s a pretend on how much the coaches brilliance has on the bottom line: how many points does the club have. Jens Keller and Marco Kurz haven’t really earned any points yet anyway.
