2.Liga, Round 25

Leaders Hertha recovered from their crap Dresden performance and were in total control against Duisburg. The Zebras put in a decent effort, but Berlin was clearly better and rolled to an easy victory.

Köln had sustained pressure against Paderborn, who were defensively disciplined, but had no outlet to relieve the sustained assault. As a result their wall eventually showed cracks, and the hosts broke through for a clear win. After a horrible season start, coach Holger Stanislawski has turned things around, and Köln is putting massive pressure on Kaiserslautern for the Bundesliga promotion spot.

St.Pauli finally moved away from relegation fears with a nerve-wracking win over Regensburg. The Paulistas dominated but kept on making mistakes that kept Jahn in the match.

An impressive effort by FSV Frankfurt as they ripped Aalen to shreds. The Bornheimers had one of their best outings of the season. They’re within striking distance of the promotion playoff, although that’s probably too big a number. After a decent start, Aalen is finding life in the 2.Liga a bit hard. They’re probably still high enough to avoid falling into the relegation battles though.

A hard fought GDR derby, and Cottbus comes out on top over Union. Energie probably deserves the win, as they were down a man for almost an hour when Bittroff got tossed for Union’s penalty. The hosts showed more “energie” and willed themselves to a win, keeping an eye on the possibility for another return to the Bundesliga.

Crap match in Sandhausen, both sides deserving to lose. 1860 gets a goal to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Horrible match in Ingolstadt, but the Schanzer get the win against Bochum. Both clubs didn’t even look like 8th liga clubs in the first half, but improved somewhat in the 2nd. After Ingolstadt got the lead, they tried to catenaccio their way to victory, and they were ultimately successful, albeit much to the chagrin of their homefans, who obviously expected more. Bochum remains in relegation crisis.

A critical relegation battle and a hardfought Sachsen-derby. Aue came out on top deservedly because they just seemed to want it more. Dresden had their moments, but generally Erzgebirge was the pressing side, gave a greater physical effort and had greater control.

Monday’s match in Braunschweig was fairly even, with Kaiserslautern getting a critical point to stay ahead of Köln in 3rd
