3.Liga: Makeup round

Even though the German clubs did quite well in the Champions League round – especially in the Bundesliga vs EPL matchup (Dortmund dominated Arsenal, Bayern dominated Man City and Schalke managed a draw at Chelski, only Luserkusen lost at Monaco), of course all real football fans were keeping a close eye on the midweek 3.Liga matches. Not even the news that HSV appointed nobody Josef Zinnhauser from their U23 squad as interim coach could draw attention away from the Round 8 makeup matches.

And there were significant results. Chemnitz jumped to the top of the table with a solid away win at Dortmund-II, showing Arsenal how it’s done on the road. It was an effective squad, well organized and disciplined that simply was a step ahead of their hosts. Bielefeld also continued their revival, with an away win at Unterhaching, serving further notice that they look to be a contender for re-promotion. Energie Cottbus is back on track with a win at home against promoted side Aspach. And some 500 Stuttgart fans came to watch the VfB U23 side and took advantage of VfB’s special “Fan Appreciation” lottery: First prize was a pair of tickets to see VfB-A on Saturday, 2nd prize was two pairs of tickets…
