Round 23, Feb 27-Mar 2
Darmstadt was the big winner as the 98ers upended Braunschweig deep into injury time. It’s pretty amazing for a club that could have been in the 4th division. The match was hard fought and looked to peter out, but late sub Jan Rosenthal rifled a shot into the net at the closing whistle.
Kaiserslautern was in total control against Greuther Fürth, but had to unnecessarily sweat the closing minutes as the visitors tried to pull out a point.
A huge relegation battle in Hamburg, but St.Pauli can’t be too happy with the draw against Aue. It was a hard-fought match, with both sides wasting sitters. But the Paulistas desperately needed a win, so only Erzgebirge can be happy with the result.
Leaders Ingolstadt seemed to be running away, but they’ve been dicking around recently, and the field seems to be moving closer. It was a rare sellout as they faced 1860 in a Bavarian derby. The Schanzer were clearly the dominant club, but 1860 hung around and struck late to grab a point that is quite valuable, considering their relegation battle position.
Fortuna Düsseldorf had a hard fought win away to Heidenheim, which keeps their slim promotion hopes alive – at least they’re within striking distance.
