3.Liga, Round 30: Bielefeld stopped

Round 30, Mar 21-22

Leaders Arminia Bielefeld were stunned by Stuttgart-II, taking a loss and shrinking their lead at the top. VfB’s U23 were very efficient and basically let Arminia attack furiously until they were able to counter and score. The win should mean that VfB doesn’t have to look over their shoulder to the relegation zone.

Kiel remains on-track to jump into the 2.Liga. The Holsteiners however had a difficult time with Regensburg, as only a solitary early goal had to stand up. The home side did control the action, but Jahn gave a good account of themselves, especially GK Richard Strebinger. They’re going down, but they can still ruin some other folks parties.

Preußen Münster was on the verge of a total disaster against Mainz-II. The favored Eagles were losing, and nothing was going right. They were saved from disgrace with a somewhat dubious penalty in injury time, robbing the Mainzers of what would have been a heroic victory. Preußen has fallen into 5th, which is definitely the worst position for the contenders (At least 4th place means automatic qualification into the DFB-Cup main round)

Duisburg took advantage of Münster’s slip, and vaulted into 3rd place with a solid thumping of Dortmund-II on the road. BVB-Bubis look like they’re just about out of gas.

Stuttgarter Kickers also are back, winning a tough match at Unterhaching. They trail MSV by goal difference, but it’s small enough that a thumping win could change that.

There was also injury time drama in Erfurt, and this time it went for the underdog. Großaspach got the late goal and left hosts Erfurt stunned. The Sonnenhofer are desperately searching for points, and must be thrilled with the result.

Cottbus missed a chance to move closer, but actually were fortunate to even salvage a point at home to Chemnitz. Energie needs a couple of wins on the trot to get back in the race. They’re certainly capable, but another match like this probably means it’s over.

Hansa Rostock looks to moving to safety. While they’re not out of the woods yet, they’ve won three in a row at home, this time easily crushing Fortuna Köln.

Dresden continues to fall apart. I believe they have now lost 7/8. Another big crowd left disappointed as Dynamo dropped another one, this time to regional rivals Halle. At this point, they are probably just wishing the season was over.
