Round 31, Apr 4-5
Mainz-II had a big day, as the Bundesliga U23s managed to knock off Erfurt, thereby leaping out of the drop zone. Bottom clus are fighting to stay alive, and although for a while Mainz looked like they were done, they’ve roared back and have a solid chance. Erfurt had been hoping perhaps to sneak back into the promotion race, but that train has no definitely left the station.
Bielefeld is back in control as they ripped Cottbus. The most interesting thing is all of Arminia’s goals were scored by ex-Cottbusers.
Stuttgarter Kickers jumped into 3rd place with a hard fought win over Dortmund-II. Since VfB is upholding their part of the bargain by getting relegated from the Bundesliga, it may be up to Kickers to make the Stuttgart derby become reality next season. Meanwhile, BVB-II looks like they’re about done
Großaspach held Kiel to a draw, and actually might have won. After giving up an early goal, the Sonnenhofer neutralized Holstein for the rest of the way, and eventually climbed back.
It’s too late, but Regensburg was impressive in thumping Wehen. Actually, it was probably more that Wehen sucked, but Jahn played a decent match and deserved the win.
“Münster gets ass ripped” could have been the alternative byline. Preußen showed little of a contender, and were thoroughly pushed around by Halle, who are often flabby at home.
Chemnitz romped over Dresden in an eastern derby, watching Dynamo continue to crash and burn – 8 losses out of nine now. The match was a sellout, although artificially reduced due to security concerns.
Osnabrück dumped Unterhaching, who have now fallen into relegation. The Mini-Münch(en)kins were actually the better team in the 2nd half, but then gave up a goal and compounded things by a couple of red cards a few minutes later.
Total attendance 69,190 (avg 6,919), 41.3% capacity, sellout in Chemnitz
