Good results in the return matches for the German clubs. Schalke 04 defeated FC Twente 4-1 to reverse the 0-1 first leg defeat and advance. Hannover beat Standard Liege 4-0 and advances as well, having drawn 2-2 away.
Schalke pleyed an aggressive attacking match, but the Dutch did not hide, and indeed scored first on a nice combo. However, the Blues had lots of chances before finally breaking through. Outstanding was Klaas Huntelaar, with 3 goals, and Jermaine Jones, who provided steel and a sharp edge supporting the attack.
Hannover had a relatively easy time as they waltzed to an easy win, as Liege defender Kanu scored two own goals (although one was with his face, not really his fault). He also missed an open net that could have got Standard back into the match.
