Jena gained an important win, against Bremen II. This was a must-win, the last chance for Carl-Zeiss, and they at least remain within striking distance. Werder’s B team however is probably finished for good now.

Sandhausen blasted Babalesberg, although it took a while to get started. Since Aalen was held at unpredictable Unterhaching, SVS takes over the lead.

Chemnitz has been charging up the table, and the newcomers basically ended Osnabrück’s slim hopes for promotion. Regensburg continues to dick around, the one-time leaders failing at Saarbrücken. Burghausen and Erfurt split points in a promotion struggle, and Heidenheim hopped back into the race with a tough win over Bielefeld.

Oberhausen followed up with recent good performances getting a win against Stuttgart II and climbing out of relegation for the first time in ages.

The Hessen-derby between two one-time famous clubs (i.e. both have played in the Bundesliga) drew a fair crowd and ended square. Kickers needed the win to revive any hope of promotion…and it’s a testament how hard fought the league is this season. Offenbach is basically equidistant from promotion and relegation.

The relegation battle is fierce. As mentioned, Bremen II is finished, and Jena is hanging by a thread. But even though Darmstadt is 11th, they’re not very safe. A loss and a tie might be enough to send them down. Popping backup next season will be more difficult, given the reorganization of the Regionalliga, so this is a season you really don’t want to drop. Babelsberg has been sinking like a rock, but the Potsdamers only need a couple of wins to turn things around. This struggle seems likely to go down to the wire.
