Bremer SV 06 Bremer SV 06 Obviously in a town dominated by Werder, there isn't much room for other clubs to share the spotlight. However, Bremer SV has kicked around for almost a century, making the best of the shadow of their giant neighbor.
Not surprisingly, the club was founded in 1906, and nothing much eventful happened until 1933, when they were joined by members of the banned Arbeitersportverein.
After WW-II, BSV entered the Oberliga Nord, and had some mixed success, finishing as high as 5th in 1949. By most measures, they were the main city rival to Werder. But that was as close as they would get, as by the mid 1950s they were relegated. They made it back in 1961, but when reorganization and the Bundesliga started in 1963, they had been dropped again.
In 2007, BSV won the Verbandsliga title, which gave them the right for promotion into the Oberliga Nord. However, the North-German Federation denied them a license due to "lack of financial resources." An appeal by BSV was denied, so they had to go back to the Verbandsliga.
