SG Schwarz-Weiss Düren 99

Once the top dog, this club has fallen behind rivals GFC, despite a desperate merger of old rivals.

Dürener FC 03 and SC Germania Düren joined forces in 1935 to form SG Düren 99. This merger turned out to be relatively successful, as D99 was soon playing in the top level Gauliga by 1939.

After the WW-II, D99 played mostly in the 2nd level 2.Liga-West. With reorganization, they were seeded in the 3rd division Amateurliga. They started out quite well, winning the championship in 1966. However, the club decided not to participate in the promotion playoffs for the Regionalliga. This turned out to be a poor decision, as perhaps depression set in, and the club would not have another chance, and got dropped down to the Landesliga by 1974. There was a revival of sorts, culminating in three Amateur-Oberliga seasons in the mid 1980s, but then things went downhill again. By the mid 1990s, D99 had disappeared off the radar screen.

Schwarz-Weiss Düren was certainly 2nd fiddle to D99. The club got started in 1896 as Verein für Jugend- und Volkspiele and some time later changed the name to Schwarz-Weiss. There was some modicum of success in the mid 1990s, advancing to the Verbandsliga, but then they too started to drop.

In 2001, rivals Schwarz-Weiss and Düren 99 merged to form the current club, which remains mired in obscurity.
