VfB Lübeck

Founded 1919, a relatively small club of about 850 members.. The height of achievement was playing in the 2.Liga in 1995 and 1996.

The 98-99 was an almost complete success. VfB started off slow, but then turned on the jets, catching seemingly unreachable VfL Osnabrueck on the penultimate round with an emotional victory. However, the title was then lost in the final round, as VfB crashed in a derby loss to rivals Holstein Kiel. The next season was almost a repeat, as :uebeck hung tough, but just couldn't catch Osnabrueck. They were rewarded with another runner-up and automatic qualification to the new combined Regionalliga.

Beer Holsten is sold in the stadium, but it's a Hamburg import. True Lübeckers usually prefer local brews Luebsch Pils or Lueck. Jever is a sponsor, but also not local.
Grub and Pub There is nice Gastätte under the main stands, with a "good cook". Featured are north German specialties such as Sauerfleisch mit Bratkartoffeln for the meat-and-potatoes crowd, along with various seafood dishes.
The Net After a slow start, the club has worked over it's official site, www.vfb-luebeck.de .
