TSG Neustrelitz TSG Neustrelitz The roots go back to 1919, when Neustrelitzer FC was founded. It lasted about 5 years, and then the soccer players tried again. Eventually, a club SG Corso Viktoria Neustrelitz managed to survive until 1945.
Sports started again in the GDR, and in 1949 a new club, BSG Konsum arose, and eventually became BSG Empor Neustrelitz. This team had some minor success, as they eventually got promoted to the DDR-Liga (2nd division) in 1964. Although Empor finished last and was relegated, they had a nice run in the FDGB-Pokal (GDR-Cup). They ended up hosting champions Carl Zeiss Jena, and drew 10,000 spectators in an exciting 1-2 loss. In 1975 the club became semi-independent (i.e. not affiliated with any industry or organization), so it was renamed to TSG Neustrelitz.
