OSV Hannover

This obscure Hannover club has pretty much disappeared off the radar screen.

OSV was founded in 1933, but in 1937 they merged with MTV Groß Buchholz, which apparently had been founded in 1923, so OSV conveniently claimed an older heritage. The club had sprung from one of those Arbeitersport ("Workers sports") clubs, Freien Turnerschaft Gro§ Buchholz. The soccer section apparently had enough of the gymnasts, and moved out.

The club was completely obscure until 1970, when they suddenly made the jump to the old Regionalliga Nord. After a few seasons, they dropped down a division, but by 1980 they qualified for the new 2.Liga-Nord. They lasted two years before being relegated an dropping into obscurity and off the face of the earth.

In 1983 the club had approximately 900,000 DM debt and went into bankruptcy. A new club was planned as "OSC Hannover", and the Niedersacshen Federation accepted their application to remain in the current leagues. However some "jealous scumbags" (probably creditors) protested and the idea was killed. In the last second a member drive came up with just enough money to avoid a wind-up, and OSV survived.

Obviously the club is still kicking around in some division in local Hannover leagues, but only remain a poignant memory for most soccer fans.

After almost going bankrupt, the club managed to get things straightened out. They were unbeaten at home for almost 2 years, and climbed back into the Bezirksliga in 2006. 2014 meant promotion back to teh Landesliga, after an absence of 17 years.
