Röchling Völklingen

This small Saarland club had a decent run in the 1970s, but has since fallen back into mostly local play.

In 1966, the Röchling company, which had started out in the local iron works at the end of the 19th century, became the main sponsor of the clubm. The name was changed to reflect this. It also meant an upward trend on the field, and by the early 1970s, RV participated in the promotion playoffs to the Bundesliga twice. As late as 1976, they finished 6th in the 2.Liga, but soon thereafter voluntarily accepted relegation back into the amateur ranks.

Stadium Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion. Capacity: 16,000 (602 seats)
Since 1994, this has been named after the Saarland soccer bureaucrat who rose to the top of the DFB. This was built in 1974, and was originally known as Städtisches Stadion. The facility was built on the same sight as the Stadion am Köllerbach (capacity 16,000), which was RV's home from 1912-74.

Tickets Prices in 2004 were only 3 euros, standing or seating, which has got to be one of the best bargains anywhere! You get a free drink at McDonald's with your ticket stub. By 2016, prices had risen to 7-10 euros, still a good deal.
Supporters Current club budget expects around 400 per match. Averaged 404 in 2004 (Verbandsliga), so they must have had a 50 euro windfall!
