SV Wilhelmshaven 92

This club actually came about in 1972, when SpVgg Wilhelmshaven aand TSV Germania (both founded in 1905) merged. The "92" comes from the fact that in 1992, they were joined by the top players from to form SV Wilhelmshaven 92

The 1998-99 season was rather ho-hum, as they remained middle-of-the-pack all season long. The next year was one of the best in years. SV challenged for the title, before running out of gas. However, life in the new Regionalliga would prove to be trying, as after aonly a couple of weeks, the club was threatened with bankruptcy. The DFB refused to allow SV merge with rivals Olympia Wilhelmshaven, leaving the future of the club in doubt. In 2001, the club finished respectably mid-table, but was forcibly relegated.
