Würzburger Kickers

The Kickers were founded in 1907 in the Restaurant "Zur Post". One of the team officials was named "Josef Beer", which was a promising start. Alas, like their neighbors and rivals WFV, most of their history has been clouded in obscurity, at least on the field.

Traditionally, Kickers were considered the "rich" folks club, while WFV had working class support, leading to greater popularity for WFV. Things have slowly been changing as those distinctions disappear.

In 1977 the Kickers made an appearance in the 2.Liga, and since WFV04 was there two, the highest local derbies were entertained. However, the poor performance meant relegation and the added expense contributed to financial difficulties through the mid 1980s.
