A disappointing game for Germany, who barely escaped with their hide. Finland had not had a decent campaign, but in this match served notice that they were no longer doormats. The Finns pressed from the start, and young Chelsea forward Mikael Forsell stunned the DFB squad with two first half goals. The Germans started the fightback with a somewhat contraversial penalty in the 2nd half, before Jancker squared the match a couple of minutes later. A victory here probably would have easily secured 1st place.
