DFB Pokal: no more surprises

The final day of round 1 of the German Cup didn’t really have any surprises. The eastern derby was pretty much dominated by Dresden, as expected. 4th division Essen put up a great fight with 2.Liga Union. In fact, it looked like a repeat of the penalty shootout from last season. However in the 120th minute, Simon Terodde scored to allow the Berliners to sneak through. Sandhausen kicked Cottbus’ ass, but both are 2.Liga clubs, so perhaps it’s just a sign that Energie might have another hapless season. Bayern completely dominated the match against Regensburg, but the fans in the sold out Jahnstadion and the players kept things tight with some desperate defending. Eventually the favorites broke through for the ho-hum victory.
