Friday night saw the first match of the 50th Bundesliga season. Defending champion Borussia Dortmund had a hard fought 2-1 win over a surprisingly strong Werder Bremen. Over 80,000 packed the “signal Iduna” and saw new signing Marco Reus open the scoring after only 11 minutes. But Werder turned out to be much better than expected. It took a late goal by Mario Götze to give the champs the victory.
