Favorite team?

Here’s one everyone can participate in. What is your German football connection, in terms of clubs? Just reply to this post, could be somewhat interesting. (BTW, it’s OK not to put Bayern on the list)

1. THE TEAM I BLEED FOR
2. I like as long as no.1 isn’t involved

German teams only!!

I was thinking about about “3. Team I hate”, but decided to leave that off. Let’s keep it positive, at least for now :)

For me:

1. WUPPERTALER SV
2. Schalke

      • I didn’t see the post with your original list…been looking through posts, so maybe it got accidentally auto-deleted or you forgot to send…
No, its not true that I flagged all “1. FC Bayern” strings as trash in the spam-bot :)

        • 😀 no worries, I’m glad that you replied.

          My original list was:
          1. 1.FC Nürnberg
          2. Borussia Dortmund
          3. FC Augsburg (when No.1 and No.2 are not involved)

          My current list is:
          1. 1. FC Nürnberg
          2. Hamburger SV
          3. BV Borussia Dortmund

          In UEFA Champions League:
          1. Bayern
          2. Dortmund

And, I also admire the work being done at Hertha BSC and FC Augsburg.

    • Haha, sometimes I think that myself. But then I realize how frustrating this club is, and whenever they seem on the verge of doing something big, they choke. (With exception of UEFA title a few years ago from the “Eurofighters”, what have they done at all in the last 50 years? Well, a couple of DFB-Pokal wins, I guess. And I’ve been following them for say, 40 years, the first time I actually saw them live.)

  1. Living in Munich since 13 years, the choice is obvious for me:

    1. Eintracht Frankfurt
    2. FSV Frankfurt

    Although it’s hard sometimes…

  2. 1. MSV Duisburg – went last August after 5 years of trying!
    2. Mainz 05 – spent my stag (batchelor to you John!) party watching them play the Aspirins last year.

Spend my Saturday afternoons watching Halesowen Town in England with Kicker on my phone to keep me updated on both the above.

  3. 1. Undecided at the moment as have always put it off until I moved to Germany. Now I am in Germany I suspect 1860 or Unterhaching

    2. Altona 1893 following my english club (Dulwich Hamlet) supporters trip there.
    2. 1. FC Kaiserslautern

  4. 1. Schalke 04 since I was taken to see them in 1994, am now a member too. :)

    2. I have a few I look out for, but probably VfL Bochum. Would like to see Uerdingen and Zwickau climb back up.

  5. 1. FC Saarbrucken–What can I say? They’re my hometown team! Their team slogan of late has been Leibe kent keine Liga, which might be appropriate if we make the drop this year

    2. VfB Heusweiler–This goes back to all of my visits to Germany. Small Village team, that up until 2011 or so played on a dirt field. They recently installed an artificial turf field based upon my most recent trip.

    • Well spoken and admirable loyalty.
Although I’m thinking that you meant “Liebe” rather than “Leibe”, the latter is a bit kinky, even for Saarlander :)

      • haha!! Thank you for the correction! As you can see from the time stamp, I wrote this up quite early in the morning, and the coffee hadn’t kicked in yet!!! FCS!!!!

  6. Everybody here is so alternative/small club that I almost feel ashamed to say it:

    1. B.V. Borussia
    2. I LIKE lots of other clubs: (this will seem weird, but north to south) Bremen, Braunschweig, Hertha, Duisburg, Gladbach, my sympathy level decreases with the latitude, Frankfurt.

  7. Living in Kaiserslautern for over 11 years now, have to go with:
    1) FC Kaiserslautern
    2) SV Eintracht Trier – they always play great in the DFB Cup, but continue to underwhelm in regular play. (How they ever made it to the 2nd Liga for a period of time is beyond my comprehension)

Hate FC Bayern in case you want to actually start that discussion

  8. My mother and her family are from the area near Düsseldorf — through them I’ve come to follow:
    1) Borussia Mönchengladbach
    2) FC Köln

    Die Fohlen!
