3.Liga, Round 31: Midweek action

Midweek action in the Dritte Liga.

Leipzig hosted Heidenheim in the gala match, and it drew a big crowd. The Rasenballsportlers played well, and often had Heidenheim on the back foot, but the leaders didn’t let it slip and split the points. Both seem in the drivers seat for promotion.

Stuttgarter Kickers battled Darmstadt in a hard fought battle. The visitors extended their streak to 14 unbeaten, but had their hands full. Also, they were unable to make up ground on Leipzig, which hurts more.

Saarbrücken handled Rostock, but at this point it’s basically just giving a finger to the rest of the league. They’re still dead last and have a lot of ground to make up. Seems like it’s over. Rostock on the other hand sucked again, looks like they’re just phoning it in.

Kiel won a critical relegation battle as they swamped Stuttgart II. The Storks have a bit breathing room, and their superb goal difference adds another point. Just about everybody would be happy if Stuttgart went down, but it’s still a tight relegation struggle.

Unterhaching was the other big loser of the day, as their loss at Erfurt keeps them down, plus Burghausen and Saarbrücken are trying to sneak up on them.
Duisburg kept Elversberg in trouble with a win, whereas Münster’s win over Chemnitz finally gives them enough leg room.
