2.Liga, Round 27: Top clubs strengthen

Midweek action saw the top clubs strengthen their positions, and the expense of their chasing contingents.

Leaders Köln were in control against a rather timid Karlsruhe, and had no real problems in getting a win. Greuther Fürth slapped Düsseldorf to remain in control of 2nd place. The most significant match was in Paderborn, as SCP overran St.Pauli, laying a stronger claim to 3rd place and slapping the Paulista’s hands as they tried to seize the Westfalen spot. Meanwhile, Kaiserslautern basically sucked and was unable to beat struggling Bielefeld, which also played into the top 3 hands. And finally, Union Berlin lost at Sandhausen, pretty much ending any aspirations they may have had.

On the bottom end, it looks like Cottbus is out of Energie. A painful home loss to a worthless 1860 side keeps them tethered to the bottom. This is one they could have won, but they basically dicked around and 1860 woke up.

Another relegation battle saw Dresden and Aalen draw. Dynamo looked the better team, but once again are left with only a point. This does let them get a bit closer to Bochum, who were ripped in Ingolstadt. Dresden’s 14 draws are by far the league’s most, and I’m sure they wish they could have turned some of these into victories. Bochum is playing crap, but one has to wonder whether Dynamo can make up the 4 point deficit.
