Unlike the Bundesliga, the 2.Liga doesn’t have a clear view of who is going to be top. In fact, it’s really anybody’s game. Right now, you’d have to say the most impressive side is an unlikely one: Ingolstadt. The Schanzer may turn out to be this year’s Paderborn. They remain the only unbeaten side, and top the table. FCI won at FSV Frankfurt in a rather drab encounter, but it was also significant. Ingolstadt has quietly set a new 2.Liga record: 18 straight matches undefeated – on the road.
Heidenheim and Kaiserslautern delivered an up-tempo fighting match. FCH is no pushover in their first 2nd division appearance, and FCK has to be considered one of the favorites for promotion.
Bochum struggled to make headway against Darmstadt, and despite constant pressure, they looked like they were going down. A goal deep in injury time saved them. The scorer was Finnish international Mikael Forssell, who has bounced around quite a bit, always looking overmatched, and then moving to another club where he looks fantastic. Nürnberg has struggled mightily, but their win over Leipzig at least shows that they appear to have turned the corner and will be able to grind out some results.
Don’t look now but 1860 sucks. Their fans used to boast that they were the no.1 club among München city dwellers, but that’s clearly not the case anymore. And if they’re looking for a München derby, it looks more likely against Unterhaching than bayern. They stunk again and got rolled in Aue and now find themselves in a relegation spot.
Düsseldorf has quietly moved up and now find themselves 2nd. Fortuna had their hands full with St.Pauli, but managed to pull through.
Total attendance 162,584 (avg 18,065), sellout in Heidenheim.
