2.Liga, Round 9 (Monday)

Monday Night saw a fierce battle in Köln, and a clear indication that although skill has improved for the home side, all is still not well. The Kölners dominated for most of the match, but some crap play early let to them falling behind. Dresden didn’t show much, and tried to stave off the constant Köln attack. The recently relegated side showed why dumping all their “high-priced” players in the offseason might have been a short-sighted move. For one thing, their bargain-bin attackers showed the reason they come cheap – they can’t hit the side of a barn. So Köln wasted chance after chance, and although they got a late equalize, this game should have been a rout. The real cost of “saving” money on salaries will be revealed in the club’s inability to bounce back to the Bundesliga, as if this is the norm, just avoiding relegation will be about all they can hope for.

For Dresden, a decent result, probably what they were hoping for.
